Student Museum Attendant

Work Description

As a Museum Attendant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

• Welcome visitors, conduct tours, and provide historical interpretation of museum artefacts.
• Provide care and maintenance of the museum and artefacts.
• Respond to requests for group/bus tours and/or special events.
• Conduct security checks for visitors to the museum/building and for containment of artefacts.
• Be responsible for opening and closing the museum.
• Maintain records for admissions, and manage cash and complete transactions.
• Provide community outreach in support of interpretive programming.
• Participate in the design, development, and delivery of public programs.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage assigned work.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):

Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).

Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.

Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.

Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.

• You apply your customer service skills and your verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to welcome visitors of diverse ages, respond to in-person inquiries, and provide information to the public.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• You apply your knowledge of Canadian history to the duties of the job.

Analytical and Organizational Skills

• You apply your knowledge of office administration to accurately process payments.
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Salary: $17.40 per hour

Expected hours: 36.25 per week

Schedule:

• Day shift
• Every Weekend

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Brockville, ON K6V 1E1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
