Position Title:Student Success Advisor, Academic Upgrading
Status: Regular Part-Time
Hours: 24 hrs/week
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences (Pathways/Academic Upgrading)
Campus/Location: North Campus
Salary: Min: $35.04/hr
What You Will Do
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as a Student Success Advisor for the Academic Upgrading Program. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive academic and career support and guidance to students enrolled in the program, helping them navigate the challenges they may face and fostering their personal and academic growth.
Reporting to the Manager, Pathway Programs, the Student Support Advisor provides academic pathways and career advising to community learners and students involved in the Academic Upgrading program (AU). Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with individual students, offering personalized support to enhance their academic success and overall well-being. You will conduct one-on-one meetings, listen to students' concerns, and work with them to form and clarify meaningful plans and set goals by developing individualized academic and career success plans that leverage available resources and campus support services.
Your role will include organizing workshops, study groups, and other initiatives aimed at improving students' study skills, time management, and academic performance. You will also assist in the development of resources and materials to support student learning.
Participation in department wide student support initiatives, recruitment events on and off campus and meetings with other Advisors and Program Coordinators on a regular basis is also required. This role will primarily work out of the North campus, however occasional travel offsite and between Humber’s three campuses will be required.

Education
What you bring to the role:
  • The successful candidate will possess a 4-year degree or equivalent in HR, Psychology, Education, Sociology, Career and Work Counsellor Programs
  • Further education (diploma, degree, graduate certificate) in academic advising or career coaching is an asset
Experience/Skills
  • A minimum of three years’ experience assessing and advising clients in an educational or social and community services environment is required.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including adult learners and individuals with various academic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with students.
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles and best practices in Student Success strategies.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
