Substation Electrical Technician

Job Summary: SUBSTATION ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

Based in Ontario, MG Power Service Associates Inc. is a service supplier to the high voltage sector performing installation, repairs and maintenance to clients across Canada. We service power utilities, power generation, and industrial sites who own or maintain high voltage equipment. Our company focuses on quality of service and safety above all else.

This Substation Electrical Technician role will entail performing transformer and other high voltage equipment servicing including new and existing installations, electrical testing, and supporting maintenance and repairs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintain compliance and follow requirements of Electrical Safety Authority as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act along with specific company or client safety policies and procedures.
• Repair, install, troubleshoot, and maintain transformers, breakers, and switchgear up to 600kv.
• Perform inspection and troubleshooting of high voltage equipment.
• Perform and troubleshoot through the following standard industry tests:

Power factor, TTR, Winding Resistance, Insulation Resistance, SFRA, functional testing, etc.

• Create inspection and technical job reports.
• Communicate with suppliers and clients as directed.
• Provide support and input for bidding and quoting.
• Take personal ownership and pride in the quality of work.
• Maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

• Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Power Systems Electrician (PSE), Electrical Engineering Degree, or other equivalent professional technical trade license.
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including at least 3 years of High Voltage experience.
• Ability to identify hazards, recommend and carry out controls to mitigate safety risks on the jobsite.
• High geographical mobility and ability to work away from home for a period of time. Position requires frequent travel across Canada and occasionally to the United States to various project sites.
• Valid Driver's License, “G” class minimum.
• Able to meet appropriate Security Clearance (Criminal Record Check).
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures.
• Able to carry out the physical requirements of walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc. to perform duties of the position.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills using English language.
• Strong time management and organization skills.
• Strong technical literacy with proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office programs (such as MS Word and Excel) and/or other project management, scheduling programs on various devices and platforms, and electrical testing software.
• Professional and respectful demeanor. Work well with others in a team environment as well as independently.
• Willingness to follow direction and support all operations as needed.
• AZ or AR Driver’s License considered an asset.
• Pass routine drug screening.

Job Type: Full Time

Rate: $32 - $44 / hour

Salary: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
