FAB Nature Camp employs staff experienced working with children and passionate about nature and conservation. The Senior Environmental Educator (Summer Camp Coordinator) is one of up to five staff onsite at camp and is responsible for working with the Program Manager to create engaging lessons that forge a healthy relationship between children and their natural environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership and mentoring to our campers and volunteers, while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment. Our Environmental Educators are responsible for upholding the policies and procedures of the FAB Nature Camps and the FAB Mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.) Provide engaging and safe outdoor educational and recreational experiences.
2.) Represent the FABN at Kendrick's Park - a Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Property
3.) Instruct camp counsellors on the implementation of program material and campers in activities.
4.) Identify and respond to camper behavioral issues, in a timely and meaningful way.
5.) Communicate with parents about daily activities and program details.
6.) Report concerns, material needs, and progress reports, to the Program Manager.
7.) Maintain a daily activities/events log, detailing program challenges and successes.
8.) Ensure that the facility is clean, organized, and litter free.
9.) Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.
Qualifications - Required
1.) Ontario High School Diploma - must be 18 years or older
2.) Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a relatable College or University Program.
3.) Experience in a leadership role, working with children
4.) First Aid/CPR/AED certified
5.) Police Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Check (Valid within the last 6 months)
6.) Willingness to work Monday-Friday, rain or shine, for their FULL contract of 14 weeks
7.) Personal means of transportation to and from camp, with a valid driver’s licence
8.) Able to walk 5 kilometers and lift 50 pounds
Qualifications - Assets
1) Bilingual
2) Member of the Ontario College of Teachers
3) National Lifeguard Certification (NLS)
4) Outdoor enthusiast, naturalist, and survival skills preferred
