Job description

All students must be full time day students at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance in fall of 2024.

Students must meet the basic requirements of the position. Should you be offered the position with the City of Cornwall, you will be required to submit verification of school status.

Your resume must clearly demonstrate how you meet the requirements if the position and have documentation to substantiate how you meet the requirements.

Requirements:

  • To plan, organize, and lead sports activities, arts & crafts, active games, theatre, music, and special events programming for children ages 5 to 12 on the playground.
  • To maintain strict safety standards and adhere to strict emergency procedures on the playgrounds.
  • To maintain and provide the Playground Supervisor with weekly stationery, playground equipment maintenance, and attendance reports.
  • To provide input into weekly staff training sessions in the areas of program planning and evaluation, skills development, and on-the-park risk management as well as collecting supplies.
  • To know and adhere to the Department of Planning, Development and Recreation Playground Program’s policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • To be a representative of the City of Cornwall and always maintain outstanding public relations skills and professional image.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: (documentation to be provided at time of application unless indicated not required)

  • Must be 16 years of age or over on the first day of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), at the candidates own expense.
  • Previous experience working with Children for example, babysitting course; Co-Op Education Placements, Coaching Youth Sports, etc.
  • Leadership training for example, Leadership Camps, School Council, School Athletic Associations; Please provide Certificates for these activities if available.
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate is recommended to be completed before June 1 or confirmation of enrolment must be provided before an interview will be granted. Must obtain Emergency First Aid before first day of employment.
  • Once hired the applicant must successfully complete the City of Cornwall’s Playground Leader Training Program; this training program will be made available to all successful applicants on pre-arranged dates in the month of June.
