Job Summary
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, Recreation Leaders facilitate play activities that provide a safe and fun play experience at Summer Recreational sites hosted by the City of Saskatoon.
Activities and activity plans facilitated by Recreation Leaders include sports, games, arts, crafts, drama, music, water play, and/or the operation of rides.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes and delivers balanced social and recreation activities with particular attention and focus on children and youth in our community.
  • Monitors activities and ensures a safe, clean, and healthy values-based environment.
  • Takes action to ensure all Occupational Health and Safety procedures are followed, including all Public Health Standards.
  • Understands the respectful workplace expectations of the City of Saskatoon and supports a positive culture with the resolution of conflicts at recreation sites, where required.
  • Coordinates and completes evaluations and reports of programming that has been delivered.
  • Performs various daily maintenance and cleaning duties assigned at specific operations.
  • Performs administrative duties as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completed Grade 10
  • Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of one year of post-secondary education in recreation/leisure, physical education, early childhood development, education, or related field or
  • One year of experience working with or volunteering for children/youth delivering recreation or children’s programs is preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain by position start date a valid, recognized first aid certificate and CPR level C.
  • Knowledge of the theory and principles of recreation program planning for children and youth that supports growth and development.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead recreation activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public in a respectful manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to change quickly.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing operational requirements, take additional training and move to alternate work sites as required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and implement safe work protocols.
Requires Security Check
Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.
Additional Requirements
HOURS OF WORK:
Daytime, Evening and Weekend work is involved.
Weekly Hours: Part Time hours
Salary Range: $18.60 to $20.51 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
