(1 Position – Full Time Student Position)

This position will assist our staff with a variety of projects related to solid waste and recycling. The role will also provide administrative and program coordination support within the department. The duties will include:

• Conducting waste audits and inspections at Landfills and Transfer Stations.
• Monitoring and maintaining leachate management systems.
• Interacting with the public and waste haulers to promote CSRD waste reduction initiatives.
• Undertaking research on waste management programs.
• Providing the public with information on ways to reduce waste.

Position Requirements

• Enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution (full-time or part-time) in a discipline relevant to the position.
• Returning to school (full-time or part-time) at the end of the period of employment or enrolled in the co-op education program.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Outgoing and excited about waste reduction initiatives.
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.

This union position extends from April 29 to August 23, 2024, and is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the CSRD and CUPE Local 1908. The wage for this position is $1,508.54 bi-weekly (January 2024 rates) plus 18% in lieu of vacation and benefits.
Hours of work for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Employees are required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment with the CSRD prior to their start date (Policy A-84).
