JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMER STUDENT SUPERVISOR

We are looking for an energetic Summer Student Supervisor to join our Events and External Programs team. The Summer Student Supervisor will support the running of a variety of summer programs and events at Shawnigan Lake School.

This is a full-time summer position which runs from approximately April/May 2024 through August 2024. This is a full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, and requires flexibility in scheduling. Shifts will be variable and are expected to include days, evenings, weekends and some statutory holidays. This role offers a wage of $22 - $23 per hour, commensurate with education, experience and internal parity.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Events Team Lead, the duties of the Summer Student Supervisor include but are not limited to:

Assist the Human Resources team with identifying and hiring of Summer Students

  • Assist the Events and External Programs team in planning for the summer events season
  • Lead a team of Summer Student workers, including planning, coordinating assignments, training, and directing and overseeing their work
  • Provide professional and efficient support for events with design, serving, set-up, take down, food delivery and activity support
  • Provide professional and efficient support for dormitory and accommodation services with accommodation turn over, cleaning and food delivery
  • Inspect facilities to ensure they conform to client expectations
  • Communicate with all departments offering services for summer events including: Transportation, Food Services, Security, Housekeeping, IT, Recycling etc.
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing post-secondary education in Event Planning, Project Management, or a related field an asset
  • Previous experience in supporting events an asset
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset
  • Experience working with children from primary up to grade 12, an asset
  • Experience with a boarding school or campus environment, preferred
  • Flexible to work outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends and the occasional split shift, when necessary, during peak operational times)
  • Valid BC Driver’s License required
  • Physical capacity to lift and carry 25 lbs; stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work alongside all staff in a campus environment
  • Self-motivated individual who is also able to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Creative and flexible problem solver
  • Flexible, able to adapt well to change and to prioritize and multi-task in a very fast-paced environment
  • Good leadership skills
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word and Excel) and Google Suite
  • A high level of organization and time management skills, along with very good attention to detail
  • Proven ability to exercise tact, discretion, diplomacy and good judgment
