Description of Position
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the ideal candidate should be comfortable working with a variety of hand tools and large automated machinery, be customer focused and detail oriented. The candidate will manufacture crates and packaging based on engineered drawings. We are hiring Summer Students on a full-time basis (40 hours + per week) from the months of May to September (flexible based upon educational requirements).
Compensation
SUMMER PRODUCTION WORKERS: Full-time $19.00 per hour plus .75¢ per premium when on the afternoon shift
Hours of Work
2-week rotation, Monday to Friday:
Week 1 and 2: 6:30am - 3:00pm
Week 3 and 4: 3:30pm - 12:00am
Qualifications
General:
- Attention to detail
- Fluent in English; written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
Carpentry:
- Read and correctly interpret engineered drawings
- Demonstrated competency in basic math
- Read and use measuring tape – imperial and metric
- Experience cutting lumber and plywood considered an asset
- Experience using pneumatic nail guns considered an asset
- Experience in constructing and assembling crates (or similar structure) as per provided blueprint(s) considered an asset
Certificates and Training:
- Grade 12 diploma
- Valid forklift operator license considered an asset
- Experience in the operation of overhead cranes considered an asset
Physical Demands
Walking: Short & long distances (30-40% of the time)
Standing: 8 hours on concrete
Gripping: Pinch gripping and power gripping both unsupported and supported objects weighing up to 10lbs. Highly repetitive with wrist bent in 30 degree flexion, extension and ulnar deviation: more than 3 hours total per day.
Pushing/Pulling: Moving lift and power carts loaded with material up to 200 pounds
Reaching: Neck bent more than 45 degrees while pressing wood product (10% of pressing job). Back bent forward more than 30 degrees while pressing wood product (10% of pressing job).
Lifting:1-40 pounds average of 5 pounds continual. Waist to knee, knee to waist, waist to chest, waist to forwards.
During the course of your employment you will be exposed to:
- Noise: In excess of 90 dbl, mandatory hearing protection
- Temperature: Ranges from 18-34 Celsius
- Air quality: Some dust (dust collector and ventilation installed)
- Traveling in inclement weather
- May experience a variety of cultural and/or religious practices
