Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

Our Team

Coleman Mine, a key asset to Vale Sudbury, produces over one million tonnes of ore per year through open stoping and cut and fill. With over 500 employees, predominantly working underground the team consists of a wide range of operators, maintainers, technologists, engineers, and support staff who work in alignment with Vale Values.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Operations Project Superintendent to join Coleman Mine in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

You will drive change through completing key operational projects to improve efficiency and increase productivity at Coleman Mine. This includes monitoring, identifying, and implementing opportunities to improve safety, production and reduce costs. You will work collaboratively with other process superintendents, managers, and Supervisors within the functional and cross functional areas of the operation, to identify work opportunities for the Mine.

In this position you will:

  • Analyse data and infield observations to develop projects to enhance productivity, improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Schedule, plan and organize the execution of key operational projects
  • Support Operational Superintendents with safety assessments and improvements, process improvements and operational technology improvements
  • Be on site and be a visible component of Coleman Mines Leadership team
  • Develop your knowledge of Coleman Mine and cover for Operational Superintendents when they are on leave
  • Take on required work and projects to improve Coleman Mine
About You

Education:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in underground mine operations.
  • Mine engineering degree or mine technologist qualification

Experience:

  • Minimum 4-10 years of engineering or project execution

Skills:

  • Must have strong organization and time leadership skills
  • High level of autonomy to see an opportunity and push to completion
  • Project process knowledge with the ability to fast track
  • Strong influencer to sell and push key projects to workforce, Superintendents and Managers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products
