PURPOSE
The Supervisor, Accounting is accountable to the Divisional Controller (Accounting Manager) for the timely completion and oversight of various accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of real estate investments, ensuring financial reporting is timely, accurate, and completed in compliance with company's accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. The Supervisor, Accounting is also responsible for assisting with research, development and implementation of change management initiatives relating to Property Accounting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Property Accounting
Oversees and is personally involved in the day to day accounting activities, including analyzing records, preparing financial statements, and liaising with various departments and peers to ensure the integrity of all information recorded is an accurate reflection of the financial state of a given portfolio. - Accounting Reporting
Produces a variety of financial reports/statements including but not limited to monthly/quarterly financial statement packages, annual budget packages, and analytic reports to ensure compliance with statutory accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. - Budgeting and Forecasting
Oversees the completion of the accounting components of the property budgets and forecast, as defined, as well as provides assistance where required, in the areas of reporting and variance analysis. Assists with troubleshooting and issue resolution to support the accurate budgeting and forecasting processes. - Oversight of Annual Audit Processes
Oversees the year-end audit processes through the preparation of accounting packages and the creation of the year-end audit file to ensure timely and accurate completion of all processes. Is actively involved with providing necessary sampling information for internal and external periodic audit processes. - Policy and Process
Assists with or completes ad hoc projects assigned (i.e., assisting with research, development and implementation of emerging technical accounting requirements or processes) to ensure that the finance department is complying with current standards and is prepared for any changes to such standards in the future. Reviews, contributes to the development and implementation of company-wide policies and procedures within the accounting team and across functional lines, to improve efficiency as well as recommend any necessary changes to reflect changing business processes or external accounting practices. - Stakeholder Relationships
Effectively communicates and develops relationships with various internal and external contacts to ensure timely submission of information in accordance with various business and audit processes. Provides responsive and high-quality service, advice, and assistance to internal stakeholders regarding accounting issues. - Management and Development of Staff
Is responsible for hiring, on-the-job training, mentoring and oversight of accounting personnel.
Any other job-related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Accounting, etc.) or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
- Working knowledge of internal controls
