Supervisor, Community & Children’s Services

REPORTING:

This position reports to the Director of Operations.

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide direction and supervision to the Preschool Resource Consultants, Children’s Consultant; Regional Respite Program, and the Children’s Autism Program (CAP), ensuring that a supportive environment is achieved and maintained in programs and services. The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementing and supervising program activities to meet the needs of participants in the program, in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The Supervisor is also expected to represent the agency through active participation in external committees, such as SEAC, Transitional Age Youth Planning Table, Coordinated Service Planning, Special Needs Resources Leadership Committee, and Children’s Clinical Case Resolution Committee etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Supervision:

  • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching of front-line support workers and program consultants
  • Oversee program plans, including implementing and supervising activities to meet the needs of program participants
  • Manage staff resources effectively to promote a positive team atmosphere
  • Conduct staff meetings to discuss initiatives, provide updates, resolve issues and support professional development
  • Review, assign and schedule work of program staff
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations
  • Participate in recruitment and selection processes for staff hiring and assignments
  • Provide direction, guidance and support to staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Under the direction of the Director, manage ongoing performance of staff, and complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Monitor internal reporting systems, providing feedback when required.
  • Complete and maintain required Agency documentation

Compliance/Licensing:

  • Work in cooperation with the Director of Operations to ensure all MCCSS Children’s Licensing requirements are being met.
  • Operate and manage services efficiently and effectively in accordance with commitments, obligations and responsibilities to the people being supported.
  • Ensure all licensing files and documents are maintained in accordance with Ministry standards, and participate in annual review with Ministry Licensing Officer
  • Ensure compliance to licensing requirements throughout program activities
  • Participate fully in MCCSS license renewal process including upkeep of licensing requirements through the SOR-RL licensing portal.

Support to Individuals & Families:

  • Regularly contact, liaise with and act as a resource for parents and caregivers; keeping parents informed of program expectations, program activities and progress
  • Resolve escalated issues of concern from parents and caregivers
  • Facilitate community meetings for children/youth that are experiencing significant behavioral issues.
  • Complete required Complex Special Needs application packages, present cases at CCRC and update cases through the CCRC review process.
  • Point of contact for all 3rd party staffing agencies providing services to CSN funded children/youth.
  • Participate in admissions and transition meetings
  • Ensure that required documentation/meetings are completed by target dates
  • Liaise with other professionals when required
  • Submit all invoices to the finance department ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Supporting the resources consultants in the direct care childcare needs
  • First of point of contact for referrals for resource consultant services

Financial:

  • Identify and evaluate financial needs for input into annual budgets
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget as it pertains to the program
  • Ensure adherence to program budgets
  • Submit all invoices to the finance department ensuring all deadlines are met

Education and Professional Development:

  • Certification as a Non Violent Crisis Intervention trainer and certifying and re-certifying all required staff
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field by attending relevant conferences, seminars and workshops
  • Ensure that staff are trained in and adhere to applicable sections of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act

Health and Safety:

  • Keep abreast of developments, current legislation and changes in legislation.
  • Follow agency policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding housekeeping, safety, security, and equipment handling.
  • Respond appropriately to any health and safety concerns and provide follow up.
  • Performs supervisory duties recognized by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Fire Code. Conducts oneself in a manner that promotes safe conditions and actions.
  • In cooperation with the maintenance supervisor, oversees building maintenance to ensure the health and safety of program staff and participants.

Other duties as assigned, based on operational needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of Children’s Licensing requirements is an asset
  • Proven ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to act as change agent for programs, with a strong continuous improvement mindset
  • Good organization, time management and work prioritization skills
  • Ability to respond to program needs as they arise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good problem-solving and conflict resolutions skills
  • Ability to liaise with a multi-disciplinary team and families.
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and willing to use own vehicle for work purposes

EDUCATION:

  • University Degree or college diploma in the social service field or related field/discipline is required.

Diploma/Degree in Child & Youth Care would be considered an asset.

TRAINING:

  • Non-violent crisis certification training upon hire. This role would be providing non-violent crisis training for all direct care roles supporting children.
  • First Aid/CPR Training upon hire

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a similar work environment
  • Five (5) years of direct care experience working with persons with a developmental disability

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Forty (40) hours per week (Tues-Sat) days and evenings and a requirement to participate in the on-call pager rotation. Shifts timings will be varied on a set schedule.
