Supervisor Of Parks, Recreation And Cemeteries

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Supervisor of Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries provides supervision to the maintenance and operation of all municipal recreation facilities, parks and Cemeteries within the Township of Minden Hills. This includes developing, managing, and scheduling of work with staff; allocating equipment appropriately, ensuring staff have proper training, adhering to the Collective Agreement (CUPE), and the coordination of contractors and user groups.

The Supervisor assists the Director of Community Services or designate(s) in the administration and management of the facility operations including arenas/community centres, parks including trails, sports fields, fairgrounds, skateboard facilities, beaches, boat launches and Cemeteries, and maintenance programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of five (5) years’ of relevant progressive experience in a Municipal facility operations, parks and Cemeteries is required, including a minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain facility management and administration certificates through Parks Recreation Ontario, Ontario Parks Association and/or Ontario Recreation Facilities Association.
• Basic Arena Refrigeration certification or ability to obtain.
• Valid standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification.
• Certificates and Training in the following are required: Chainsaw Safety and Operation, Traffic Control, Working at Heights, Propane Safety and Handling.
• A valid “G” Drivers licence for the province of Ontario.
• Experience in the operation of all of the following: ice re-surfacer, backhoe, single axle truck and trailering equipment as well as a thorough knowledge of equipment, vehicles and materials used in Municipal facilities, parks and Cemeteries and maintenance procedures.
• A good understanding of all policies, procedures, by-laws, Ministry guidelines, regulations and legislation related to the operation of facilities, parks and Cemeteries and equipment, and maintenance.
• Proven leadership abilities, excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Good understanding and experience with Microsoft Office Software programs.
• Strong planning/time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Facility Scheduling, Radio Communications/Global Positioning System (GPS) and Cemetery software.
• Post-secondary education in related fields such as Recreation, Facility Operations and Parks/Trails.
• Certificates and Training in the following are preferred: Playground Inspector, Turf Management, Horticulture, arboriculture and WHMIS.

Salary range is $65,104.00 to $76,606.40, pending review, and will commensurate with experience and skills.

This position involves office work as well as patrols of facilities, parks and Cemeteries that require physical demands outside of normal office working conditions. Travel is required and work can be performed outdoors.

Prior to the final selection for this position, the candidate will be required to provide, at their own expense, a Vulnerable Sector Check from the Ontario Provincial Police or appropriate Police Force as well as a clean Driver’s Abstract.
