JOB TITLE: SUPERVISOR – PREP FABRICATION

Reports to: Plant Manager

II. JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, ensure the safety of the employees on the shop floor, train current and new employees on updated processes, quality, track and maintain efficiencies, set up jobs to keep the line running smooth, train employees to move forward with the company, present a professional image of Essex Weld Solutions, mandatory cross training to other positions if required.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Follow daily priority sheets
  • Ensure jobs to hourly employees in a prompt organized fashion
  • Ensure jobs are set up in a safe, and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all employees are provided with the necessary tools to accomplish their task on the job
  • Continuous monitoring of all facets in the manufacturing process with emphasis on improving quality, efficiency and safety
  • Ensure all problems are identified, logged and corrected prior to completing the production run
  • Ensure all facets of the process adhere to OHSA standards & Essex Weld Solutions safety standards and all rules and regulations are enforced, and corrected.
  • Ensure all employees are trained, and adhere to the H&S rules and regulations
  • Attend safety & training seminars as requested
  • Perform workplace inspections
  • Adhere to Section 27 & 28 of OHSA

Section 27 – Duties of a Supervisor

(1) A supervisor shall ensure that a worker,

(a) works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by this Act and the regulations; and

(b) uses or wears the equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn.

(2) Without limiting the duty imposed by subsection (1), a supervisor shall,

(a) advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware;

(b) where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker; and

(c) take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.

Section 28 – Duties of a Worker

(1) A worker shall,

(a) work in compliance with the provisions of this Act and the regulations;

(b) use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn;

(c) report to his or her employer or supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker; and

(d) report to his or her employer or supervisor any contravention of this Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.

(2) No worker shall,

(a) remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the regulations or by his or her employer, without providing and adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately;

(b) use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker; and

(c) engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.

  • Provide hourly employees with all training necessary for them to perform their duties.
  • Set goals and objectives with hourly employees and monitor them
  • Provide feedback on a regular basis regarding performance
  • Corrective and/or disciplinary action when required
  • Constantly reassess and review duties and responsibilities and make changes as required
  • Complete required paperwork according to ISO 9001:2015 standard.
  • Remain accessible to all hourly employees for assistance, guidance and support whenever needed.
  • Present a professional image of Essex Weld Solutions, and a personal commitment to the safety and well-being of all employees.
  • Participate in continuous improvements, 5S and 8 Waste initiatives, including and not limited to processes, production flow etc.
  • Perform all other duties as required
  • Mandatory cross training when required, training will be provided.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to take constructive criticism
  • Ability to supervise and motivate a team to achieve and exceed their goals
  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be available for overtime as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be available to rotate shifts

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Education

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing setting
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong blueprint reading
  • Knowledge of fabricating machines
