Summary

As a Metro Ontario Supply Chain Rotational Co-op student, you will be part of an exciting 12-month rotational program that will allow you to gain a realistic job preview of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that embraces change and creative thinking in three different areas of the business. This 12-month rotational co-op program with Metro Ontario will teach and give you practical skills beyond your classroom understanding in: Supply Chain Optimization, Transportation, and Logistics & Engineering. You will gain knowledge and practice from one of Canada’s most successful grocers that will give you the necessary experience to become competitive in your future endeavors by having a well rounded understanding of the function of Supply Chain and the complex systems it encompassess.

Supply Chain Optimization

During the student's Supply Chain Optimization term, they will be responsible for supporting the team in planning and optimizing functions in Supply Chain. This is an exciting opportunity for a student to support project management and execution of changes to Supply Chain to improve item availability, service levels, and reductions in total cost-to-serve. This student will also provide support to our Store and Business Services departments, learning even more about our business by supporting the team with promotional, pricing and store operations inquiries.

Transportation

During the student's Transportation term, their responsibility is to analyze Transportation process issues, develop and implement solutions. This position is expected to be a primary contributor for issue resolution and proactive solution development. The student will also provide valuable support and insights to continuous improvement projects while developing their understanding of the entire Supply Chain at Metro.

Logistics & Engineering

During the student's Logistics and Engineering term, they will be responsible for supporting the Logistics and Engineering team in contributing with detailed definition of business requirements, design of distribution solutions, continuous improvement initiatives and analysis to support business strategies. Projects can include distribution center capacity assessment, layout and design as well as network optimization and network strategic analysis. The student is responsible for data analysis, time studies, process mapping and KPI reporting through to presentation of solutions, mapping new processes and simulation of results.

Specific Responsibilities

Supply Chain Optimization

  • Perform detailed analysis and research to conduct feasibility studies in support of the development of project business case analysis.
  • Respond to store inquiries regarding merchandising and Supply Chain questions and work with internal teams to provide accurate and timely responses.
  • Support the Store and Business Services teams in root cause analysis and corrective measures execution.

Transportation

  • Prepare and make recommendations to the Analyst Team Lead on modifying existing or proposed processes, workflows, and reports to improve efficiencies and to resolve issues and risks.
  • Document core processes and workflows and communicate to relevant parties.
  • Assist in developing better management reporting tools to improve information flow and organizational planning.
  • Assist with calculation and assess transportation costs and their impact on the business units.
  • Review and benchmark service providers against agreed-upon service standards.
  • Coordinate and follow up on business partners' documentation, ensuring that business units receive required reports in a timely manner.

Logistics & Engineering

  • Provide design and engineering support for new automated and existing operations, with focus on productivity improvement and maximizing return on capital investments.
  • Build project requirements and manage the successful execution of a range of selected tactical projects in collaboration with stakeholders and cross functional teams.
  • Support the development of short and long-term planning including automated network design and optimization, warehouse cost modeling, and definition of DC requirements.

Qualifications

  • Industrial Engineering undergraduate student (preferred Industrial Engineering).
  • Part of a University co-op/professional experience program.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD, Arena, Alteryx, MS Excel, Access, Visio, and Project (an asset).
  • Self motivated, capable of managing multiple projects and strong data mining skills.
  • Some occasional travel may be required.

This position is fully in-person at our offices in Etobicoke, ON.
