Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Survey Lead is responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • Understand and execute all necessary survey works to achieve the requirements.
  • Responsible for the setting-out and measurement on site.
  • Read and understand design and methods drawings.
  • Create/review survey-related Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Use and establish benchmark references, according to proper survey methods.
  • Follow up the proper maintenance of survey equipment and accessories.
  • Providing survey and technical support to our Construction Supervision teams including deciphering plans, producing grade files, grade stakeout, grade checking, quality assurance, field fit designs and measuring / generating construction quantities
  • Providing survey and technical support to our Design teams collecting data, providing survey base for design including mapping utilities, legal composites, preliminary designs, quantities, drafting and plotting
  • Drone Mapping with Lidar and Photogrammetry and processing
  • Terrestrial Scanning and Processing
  • Topographic / Detail Surveys utilizing RTK GNSS and Robotic Instruments
  • Setting control utilizing static GPS GPS/GNSS and other methods
  • Processing field to finish using Civil 3D, Istram, TBC, and other software.
  • Performing Quality Control / Quality Assurance reviews on work done by coworkers including staff and independent contractors
  • Good safety culture and ability to give a good example when it comes to being safe on site: Create/review Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS) and daily Tasks Briefings for the survey team.
  • Monitor the work under your control to ensure that any unsafe work conditions and non-compliance with company policies and procedures are promptly remedied.
  • Communicate with commercial staff to ensure all records for measurement and payment purposes are prepared promptly, in appropriate form.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good communication with the construction team and other project members.
  • Master Degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or BIM.
  • 10 + years surveying experience, and experience in rail/transportation industry

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Good knowledge of construction methods such as earthworks, drainage, ballasted railway tracks, and concrete formwork.
  • Have good operational knowledge of GPS, total station, and level instruments.
  • Field experience with GNSS, Robotic Total Stations, Scanners, Drones and Data Collectors with an emphasis on construction, included monitoring.
  • Experience with data processing and drafting using Civil 3D, TBC and Istram.
  • Experience with supervising other staff and mentoring junior staff members: Take a personal interest in developing staff to their next level.
  • Experience with estimating work and client communications. 
  • Good knowledge of Machine Control Systems, such as Leica iCON, Trimble Works Manager, or similar.
  • Experience creating workflows between track measurement trolleys, TS surveys, levelling and tamping machines.
  • Thorough working knowledge of BIM methodology:
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP). Support project goals and meet Employers Information Requirements (EIR).
  • Ability to confidently work within a Common Data Environment (CDE) to manage and share project information.
  • 3D Models - Expertise to specify, create or manage the production of federated 3D models to meet project and role requirements.
  • 4D Planning - Knowledge of 4D program to improve understanding of the construction sequence and support risk reduction.
  • 5D Commercial - Ability to use and contribute to integrated time, model and cost workflows.
  • 6D Handover - Expertise to lead data capture, validation and verification processes to achieve project goals and meet Employers Information Requirements (EIR).
  • Liaison with the BIM, GIS and Survey teams for holistic management of models and utilities.
  • English, written and spoken
