What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
  • Clear survey lines and place benchmarks, run centre lines for road construction and baselines for topography surveys
  • Work with contracted firms and Commission staff to set grades for building structures
  • Calculate grades for roads and parking lots, drainage ditches, culverts, tile beds and all underground water and sewage lines which are gravity flow
  • Locate all underground services such as electrical, telephone, water and sewage in all park areas including Upper Canada Village and Upper Canada Golf Course
  • Discuss implementation of operations with agencies working on Commission property to ensure safe and efficient procedures are used
  • Review proposed plans to assess conflicts and/or inaccuracies and recommend action
  • Maintain up-to-date filing data containing field records
  • Prepare field drawings of surveys


How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • Valid Class ‘G' driver's license


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

You have:
  • Knowledge and/or experience equivalent to a field of study in the survey engineering field.
  • An understanding of surveying principles and practices, construction, and related fields.
  • Mathematical skills related to surveying, with an emphasis on algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to prepare working sketch plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it applies to the work being performed.


COMMUNICATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

You have:
  • Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to work with all levels of staff in completing projects in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Effective organizational skills to assess work, set priorities and coordinate projects with staff.


COMPUTER SKILLS

You have:
  • Knowledge and experience with specialized computer software (e.g. AutoCAD), digital terrain modeling, alignments, drafting techniques and standards.
  • Experience in GIS tools, software, and databases.
  • Demonstrated understanding of control networks, co-ordinate geometry, and the use of map
    projections and datum to prepare geomatics generated products using AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Access, Excel,
    etc.
