Group Benefits Solutions (GBS) provides benefits to over 40,000 health care workers and retirees. We are the largest provider of benefits in Nova Scotia's health system, offering a broad range of Employee Benefit Plans, including Group Life, Health, Dental, a self-insured Long Term Disability Plan (LTD), and a menu of optional benefits.

Position Scope

Reporting to the Director of Group Benefits Solutions, the Systems & Analytics Manager leads a team to provide a broad range of business support for GBS member organizations, benefit administrators and other GBS team members and functions. These include benefits billing, premium reconciliation, and administration system support & change requests, and technology solutions. This role works closely with financial resources, system providers, consultants, employers and the Benefits & Quality Assurance Role.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the department's business technology and data reporting needs, vendors, and change agenda.
  • Leading a team to develop, interpret, implement, and maintain reconciliations and other financial models.
  • Analyzing complex financial processes and preparing recommendations for control or action.
  • Authorizing statements and disbursement requests for payments to insurance providers.
  • Managing the resources and systems to facilitate intake and workflow of digital forms, applications, and other work to be processed by the Service Delivery team.
  • Maintaining and improving the software and workflow applications and assets in place to enable these processes.
  • Overseeing the design and generation of business reports and dashboards/KPI metrics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completion of university level education in business or related field, or a combination of relevant education, training and experience.
  • 3-5 years leadership experience in a management or team lead capacity or demonstrated progression in roles
  • Minimum 10 years knowledge in the administration of employee benefits (Life, Health and Disability) in progressive roles.
  • Completion of some industry level courses such as CEBS, IFEBP (FTMS, ATMS) and/or willingness to further industry knowledge.

Qualities & Abilities

  • Excellent grasp of data analytics and excel at communicating insights derived from analysis using strong business acumen.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to analyze plan financial statements, identify trends and to communicate financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to drive projects from conception to completion.
  • Display leadership, sound judgement, and independent decision making.
  • Self-starter and able to demonstrate considerable initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, staff, consultants and member organizations, invoking presentation skills where appropriate.
