Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager of Content and Technologies, the Systems Librarian administers, maintains, and updates the library’s website and serves as the primary support to staff regarding day-to-day use of the Integrated Library System (ILS). This position also provides assistance to the Manager of Content and Technologies regarding ILS administration, provides support to the Information Technology Specialists and all staff on the use of library technology, and administers other library systems such as digital signage.

Position Responsibilities

These responsibilities indicate the general nature and level of work expected. The Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required and as the nature of library services evolve.

Website Administration and Marketing

  • Serves as the Library’s webmaster and creates and updates website content in conjunction with the Manager of Content and Technologies and managers and supervisory staff.
  • Assists with creating, editing, and publishing of social media content, website and other electronic marketing initiatives in conjunction with the Manager of Content and Technologies, the Marketing and Communications Specialist and other assigned staff.
  • Supervises the website’s online calendar and advises other staff on its use and maintenance.
  • Provides support to other staff regarding the website Content Management System (CMS), including booking module, form builder and events calendar.

Integrated Library System (ILS) Administration

  • Assist the Manager of Content and Technologies with the administration of the Integrated Library System (ILS), including creation of accounts, creation and maintenance of form templates, edits and updates to loan rules, and other associated parameters.
  • Develops field mapping for ILS import templates.
  • Develops 9xx field programming for MARC record ILS import templates.
  • Works with library materials vendors to ensure correct settings are used for materials cataloguing and processing.
  • Provides support to staff on the day-to-day use of the ILS.
  • Maintains Electronic Resources and their integration with the ILS.

Technical Support

  • Works with the Information Technology Specialist and Manager of Content and Technologies to provide timely and professional on-site and telephone support to resolve hardware, software, network, and operating system issues.
  • Provides on-boarding ILS and Website training to new library employees.
  • Creates documentation, user guides and tip sheets on new technologies and ILS modules for other staff.
  • Assists with training other staff on new technologies and new ILS modules.
  • In conjunction with the Manager of Content and Technologies and the I.T. Specialist, acts as a resource person for the use of technology in the library.

Supervision

  • Supervises Library Aides, college placement Library Technician students and volunteers.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Library Aides, placement students and volunteers.

Administration

  • Maintains setting and administrative requirements of Circulating Electronics collections; supervises maintenance of these devices.
  • Advises on innovative technology developments in the Library Information Technology field.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum education: Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent from an accredited institution. Course work in technology/systems/coding.
  • Experience with ILS administration (knowledge of Clarivate Sierra considered an asset).
  • Equivalent of three years’ experience working in a public library setting.

Technical Competencies

  • Proven technical skills working with new technologies, mobile devices, laptops, Chromebooks, eReaders, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of library cataloguing standards and guidelines such as RDA, LCSH, etc.
  • Knowledge of MARC and other machine-readable code.
  • Proven technical skills in the areas of desktop software knowledge.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Windows and iOS.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, setting tasks, and supervising/coaching staff.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of a variety of content management systems

Hours: 35 hours per week. May include evenings and weekends in both Acton and Georgetown branches.

Salary Range:$76,934– $91,589 annually + competitive benefits and pension
