POSITION

Worksite: A.D. Rundle Middle School

Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time (60%- TBD)

Assignment Area(s): Resource and Learning Assistance Teacher

Salary Range: $57,972 to $106,217 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date : Immediately until not later than June 30, 2024

There will also be required in-service for the successful candidate to complete.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services

• demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined

• demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL

• demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and Learning disabilities

• demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL

• demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and Learning disabilities

• knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the collaborative process of developing, implementing and evaluating Competency-Based CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.

• extensive academic training, professional preparation and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment

• knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment

• demonstrated understanding of inclusion, especially the design of lessons using a UDL (Universal Design for Learning) framework

• demonstrated ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to co-plan lessons using UDL.

• demonstrated ability in working as a Case Manager for students at the school, district, and inter-agency levels

• demonstrated willingness to participate as an integral member of the School Based Team

• demonstrated ability to liaise with classroom teachers to assure that the goals of the CBIEPs are effectively being implemented and evaluated

• demonstrated experience in effective transition planning from elementary to middle and middle to secondary

• demonstrated leadership role in adapting/modifying curriculum for students with Special Needs

• demonstrated success at working with and coordinating programs/schedules for a team of Educational Assistants

• demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences and to adjust instructional practices accordingly

• demonstrated organizational, communication and classroom management skills

• demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues both verbally and in writing

• demonstrated ability & proven experience in teaching social skill groups and functional life skills

• demonstrated ability & proven experience in using technology to support student needs especially ones supported by SET-BC

• demonstrated excellence in the areas of interpersonal skills, communication, and collaboration

• willingness to learn about and participate in Response to Intervention and Instruction processes

• demonstrated ability to use a variety of formative and summative assessments to plan for instruction

• demonstrated excellent classroom management, behavioural management and organizational skills

• commitment to working with staff/parents in an open, accepting manner in order to promote a strong and caring professional learning community focused on student learning and needs
