Job Summary
The Tactical Internet Collection Officer is responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on threat-related activities using online open source intelligence (OSINT) tradecraft.
Major Responsibilities:
- Adhering to methodologies established by the responsible Service Policy Centre, assess and interpret online information by employing appropriate investigative means to gather intelligence, applying target knowledge and using advanced analytical tools.
- Monitor the activities of specific subjects of investigation, identify investigative leads, and support the identification and development of new targets and sources.
- Be cognizant of active investigations, relevant local threat environments, online trends, existing and emerging social media platforms and patterns of internet usage by persons of interest.
- Consult with relevant operational units to gather and analyze their intelligence requirements; provide advice and explain results achieved, continuously assess requirements, and write operational reports.
- Ensure tasking requests are compliant with the CSIS mandate and CSIS Conduct of Operations policies, including operational use of the Internet and targeting procedures.
- Working with the responsible Service Policy Centre, maintain the safety and integrity of CSIS Tactical Internet intelligence collection; identify capability gaps and make recommendations regarding the acquisition of new data sources, analytical tools or techniques and the development of new applications to find potential solutions.
Education
- Undergraduate degree and four (4) years of experience*
- College diploma and six (6) years of experience*
- High school diploma and eight (8) years of experience*
The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.
If you completed a program outside of Canada you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.
Experience
- *Experience conducting research and analysis** and report writing.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and smartphone technology.
- Knowledge of OSINT methodologies and sources.
**For this criterion, research and analysis experience is defined as experience in researching information and employing critical thinking and investigative thought via open sources. Experience in analysing the information collected in order to draw inferences, generate leads, and make recommendations.
Candidates must also possess:
- Experience conducting research and analysis using online sources.
