Overview: Our client is looking for a staff accountant to join a small boutique CA firm with one amazing partner doing Tax. This firm is located in North York and provides top-notch tax, accounting, and business consulting services to private corporations and high net worth individuals. You will be given the opportunity to assume a busy and challenging role, reporting to a Partner, and supporting the organization in general.
What you will be doing:- Compile and review financial statements and tax returns
- Organize source documents including investment and tax details provided by clients
- Identify outstanding information on files and draft requests for information
- Input data from financial records into CaseWare, prepare adjusting entries, compile financial statements and accompanying Compilation Engagement Reports
- Prepare corporate, partnerships, and trust tax or financial returns, GST/HST returns; estimate taxes payable and tax installments.
- Prepare personal tax returns for individuals with domestic and foreign investments, self-employment income, rental properties, etc.; prepare T1134, T1135, T1141 and T1142 forms
- Prepare relevant tax returns et al for non-residents investing in Canadian real estate
- Communicate with Canada Revenue Agency and other tax authorities regarding client matters or status updates
- For the right candidate, potentially mentorship opportunity with firm's tax partner with 35 years of in-depth income tax experience
What you must have:- A passion for attaining accounting and tax knowledge including tax planning is desirable for this position
- Eager to learn and improve; willing to put in the time, and "walk the talk"
- Canadian tax experience is essential
- Minimum one year of relevant experience (covering tax season) in a public accounting firm setting
- Proficiency with CaseWare and Profile (or other comparable tax software)
- Able to deal with working papers that have double-sided references
- Professional maturity and confidence in oneself yet not afraid to ask questions
- Ability to deal effectively with principal, regulatory authorities, and clients
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks, multitask, and work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Highly organized, able to work independently, and self manage
- Adequate written and verbal communication skills; responsive
- Possess or willing to attain exceptional technical skills; able to or willing to learn to see the trees and the forest
- Have proven problem solving capabilities including ingenuity and analytical skills; keen attention to important details
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; able to organize, prepare and clearly present information to team and clients
- Advanced MS Office skills (particularly in using Excel) would be an asset
Salary/Rate Range: $ 50,000 - $ 65,000
