TD's ESG Strategy includes focus areas on climate change and responsible resources use, social and economic inclusions, and business integration. TD's Climate Action Plan, announced in November 2020, aims for net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Meeting this goal involves executing initiatives focused on sustainable finance, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, identifying climate issues and solutions in carbon intensive sectors, and developing a TD perspective on the transition to the low carbon economy. This is a high priority goal for the Bank, with engagement from executives across the enterprise.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Sustainable Finance, the ESG Intern will work with the Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship team and key internal business partners to support strategic initiatives as it relates to the Climate Action Plan and TD Pathways to Economic Inclusion. The intern will also monitor key market developments and technologies across various sectors and share key takeaways to identify new opportunities for the Bank.

Job Details

The successful candidate will work on various Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategic initiatives. Potential work areas:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure execution of project deliverables, including preparing briefs, decks, and summaries for executive audiences
  • Manage the research, tracking and communication of key developments in the ESG/climate space, specifically for sustainable finance
  • Conduct data analysis to identify business/sector trends relating to low-carbon growth

What the successful candidate can expect to gain:

  • Understanding of ESG, cleantech and sustainable finance within a financial institution
  • Exposure to multiple areas of TD's business, including wholesale banking, personal banking product, asset management, and insurance
  • Understanding of how new initiatives are developed within a financial institution
Job Requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in an Environment or ESG related degree (Technical: Business, Accounting, Engineering)
  • Experience and/or education in an Environmental, ESG field, or business field
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong analytical and data management skills and experience with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amounts of data
  • Strong relationship building skills — a good "people person"
  • Strong project management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, multitask, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking, research and analysis skills, with the ability to uncover and synthesize findings and results based on complex technical information and data
  • Experience in the financial services industry is an asset

  • This position is a 4-month work term and will commence May 6th to August 30th, 2024..
