Primary Purpose: The Team Lead (Afternoon Shift) is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of his/her team, helping team members meet production goals, and communicating concerns with management. The Team Lead is typically a secondary role to his/her current production duties and responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Focused supervisory support, typically also as a hands-on worker, in a defined subset of the Production floor; this could include an individual assembly cell, a small cluster of related cells, or another defined area/team.
- Organize staff and optimize work execution within the specified cell/team/work area, applying relevant policies and work procedures. Responsible for the assigned team’s ability to meet production goals. Must be able to identify requirements for specific materials or tools and communicate these requests to the appropriate person. Must be able to prioritize work schedules to meet production goals.
- Ensure building is locked when all staff have left the building at the end of the shift.
- Maintain compliance of the team to Health and Safety regulations, policies, procedures, training requirements and expectations. Promote a safe work environment and is responsible for the safety of all employees on the shift. Assist in the investigation of, and resolution of, safety concerns and incidents.
- Communicate issues or improvement opportunities to the Supervisor and/or Director of Manufacturing.
- Complete nightly shift reports.
- Provide hands-on training for new staff.
- Communicate any scheduling conflicts to the Production Supervisor and assist in resolving them.
- Ensure all Continuous Improvement initiatives are adhered to, including the use of Visual Boards, and report any issues to the Supervisor.
- Assist in arranging temporary workers, inspecting work for quality issues, maintaining work standards, and resolving issues between team members.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, or kneel.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- PPE includes safety goggles, gloves, hearing protection, and CSA approved work boots.
- The normal work week is up to 40 hours, but the hours will vary according to production demands. Some overtime may be required. May be subject to changing climate conditions such as heat and cold.
