Team Lead Geologist, Surface Exploration

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Team Lead Geologist will co-lead multiple exploration projects in the Magino District for the discovery of additional gold resources within the company’s tenure. This is a full-time position with company benefits. The role will supervise and execute Surface Exploration and drilling programs with a team of Geologists and support staff. It is anticipated in the future that as new projects are acquired, this individual will also assume a role in those exploration projects throughout Canada.

CANADIAN PROPERTIES AND MAGINO MINE:

Argonaut Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a portfolio of operations in North America. Focused on becoming a low-cost, mid-tier gold producer, the Company’s newest gold mine, Magino is expected to become Argonaut’s largest and lowest cost mine. Commercial production at Magino has been achieved, which is the first step in transforming the Company as it enters a pivotal growth stage. The Company also has three additional operating mines including the Florida Canyon mine in Nevada, USA, where it is pursuing potential for redevelopment and additional growth, La Colorada mine in Sonora, Mexico and San Agustin mine in Durango, Mexico.

The Company currently has over 25 exploration projects and joint venture projects located in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It is highlighted by the commercially producing Magino Mine in the Dubreuilville area of Ontario and numerous surrounding regional projects throughout the Michipicoten Greenstone Belt. There is the Hercules, Castlewood Lake, West Geraldton, Klotz Lake/Milestone/Adel gold projects in the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt of northwestern Ontario, as well as two significant early-stage exploration projects in Quebec which Argonaut Gold Inc. has equal strategic JV partnerships with two other junior mining companies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Execute, lead, and supervise geology related work in the regional district including geological mapping, trenching, stripping, channel sampling, drilling, geological logging, QA/QC, sampling of drill core, and structural analysis of drill core.
• Execute, coordinate, and manage diamond drill programs in support of district exploration.
• Carry out geological interpretation and modelling.
• Promote and maintain a clean and safe working environment for all staff including strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and community relations regulations and policies.
• Comply with all internal policies and procedures pertaining to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Earth Sciences is required.
• M.Sc. or advanced degree in Geology or Geological Engineering would be considered an asset.
• A registered P. Geo with the Ontario PGO in good standing.
• A Valid Driver’s License (Employment with the company is provisional based on being able to be insured to drive company vehicles).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in the mineral exploration and/or mining industry with a minimum of 3 years in a Team Lead or supervisory role.
• Gold exploration experience specifically in Archean greenstone settings is required.
• The ideal candidate will have much of their experience in Surface Exploration.
• Strong technical expertise, particularly in updated/advanced technology Surface Exploration techniques.
• Experience required in designing/planning/implementation/managing of surface and diamond drill programs and supervising surface and core logging geologists/technicians including SOP development.
• Experienced in exploration target generation and target advancement.
• Has experience working on teams who have advanced exploration projects from discovery to drill testing.
• Experience with executing and monitoring drilling and other exploration contracts (ex. geophysical contracts, etc.).
• Extensive experience in establishing and maintaining QA/QC procedures and protocols.
• Well-developed technical and periodical report writing skills.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to various levels within an organization, as well as with contractors and external stakeholders.
• Previous experience working with oriented drill core is an asset.
• Industry standard GIS and 3D modelling experience in one or more of the following is required: Logging software, ArcGIS, QGIS, Leapfrog, Geosoft Target, Datamine, Micromine, or other mining/exploration software is desirable.
• Fluency in the MS Office Suite is required.
• Review of and assisting with the preparation of Press Releases and assay result verification for public release.
• Experience with training and mentorship.
• Experience with budget preparation, budget monitoring and invoice approvals.
• NRCan NDTCB Certification for portable XRF is desirable.
• Solid knowledge of Ontario Health and Safety requirements.
• First Aid/CPR and ATV/UTV certification is desirable.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• This is a permanent position, and he/she can start immediately.
• The successful applicant would be working a schedule of 15 days on, 13 days off (12-hour days). Accommodation and meals would be covered by Argonaut Gold Inc. Coverage of mobilisation costs to and from site will depend on the point of hire of the successful candidate.
