Position
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Supervisor, Civil Works, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in the operation of Heavy Equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and compactors;
- Operate a variety of Heavy Equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, wristed twists, hoe packs/rams, haul trucks, and other machinery;
- Supervise duties including grading, excavation, material handling, and other earthmoving activities in accordance with project requirements;
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of Heavy Equipment Operators and skilled labourers;
- Interpret project plans, blueprints and specifications to ensure accurate execution of assigned tasks;
- Conduct in-depth equipment diagnostics, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime;
- Assess equipment performance metrics and collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules;
- Document safety infractions and report deficiencies and concerns to supervisors;
- Participate in daily safety toolbox meetings to promote B2Gold Nunavut’s safety standards and ensure compliance; and
- Adhere to B2Gold Nunavut’s health, safety and environment policies and procedures.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Six (6) years’ experience operating Heavy Equipment including finishing excavator, wristed twist, hoe pack/ram, dozer, haul truck with three (3) years in a supervisory role;
- Heavy Equipment Operating Certification considered an asset;
- Previous experience working on a remote site in Arctic conditions with limited access to resources, is desirable; and
- Prior experience working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $121,264.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $44.00 and overtime rate of $66.00) in a work year.
