Technical FHIR Business Analyst
On behalf of our client, Procom is currently seeking an expert FHIR BA for a six (6) month engagement based in Burnaby, British Columbia. This client is pleased to offer a remote work model for this role.
Technical FHIR Business Analyst Job Details
  • The Technical FHIR BA will be a self-directed individual who is part of a high-performing Agile, DevOps team supporting the design and build of the province’s Longitudinal Record Access (LRA) Service, a back-end data layer of FHIR-based APIs.
  • This role requires a highly skilled, organized, and thorough senior business analyst, who is a self-starter and can demonstrate their extensive experience with FHIR, HL7, APIs, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyze, design, and implement FHIR-based healthcare solutions using the HAPI FHIR framework.
  • Gather requirements for FHIR-based solutions.
  • Develop implementation guides.
  • In depth knowledge and hands-on experience with pan-Canadian Standards and FHIR, encompassing FHIR resources, profiles, terminology, RESTful API, and advanced searching capabilities.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings with numerous health sector stakeholders, including health teams, healthcare professionals and development teams to support requirements gathering and the design of a provincial interoperable health system:
  • Organize stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Capture minutes and actions, follow up on actions.
  • Produce clear and concise documentation for stakeholders.
  • Produce stakeholder mapping and analysis.
  • Work with the team to write business cases, project documentation, executive presentations, and reports.
  • Conduct multi-layer data analysis independently by linking data from multiple health information data sources.
  • Perform data mapping, transformation, and validation to ensure accurate and compliant data exchange through FHIR interfaces.
  • Support specific healthcare use cases by developing and maintaining FHIR profiles, resource definitions, and extensions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to development teams regarding FHIR implementation and adoption.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors to facilitate seamless integration of FHIR interfaces and promote interoperability.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in FHIR (R4, R5) and healthcare interoperability standards to recommend best practices and improvements.

Technical FHIR Business Analyst Mandatory Skills
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree in clinical informatics, health information science, data science, and/or computer science.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Technical BA in the healthcare sector
  • Extensive experience working with FHIR standards, FHIR Resources and Profiles, HL7, terminology, implementation guides and APIs, including Restful APIs and searching.
  • Proficiency in mapping and modelling complex healthcare datasets into FHIR-compliant structures, ensuring interoperability and data integrity.
  • Experience analyzing processes and understanding the interactions between various healthcare systems.
  • Proven experience in integrating FHIR standards with legacy healthcare systems and electronic health records (EHRs).
  • In depth knowledge of pan-Canadian Standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including developing agendas, leading meetings, supporting the group to stay on track, and facilitating collaboration.
  • Excellent skills gathering technical requirements, processes, and workflows.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to understand and develop data mapping documents.
  • Ability to work with operations teams, develop documentation to meet their needs and deliver training.
  • Active interest in latest advancements in FHIR and healthcare interoperability standards.

Technical FHIR Business Analyst Nice-To-Have Skills
  • Experience working with the Health Authorities in BC
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., FHIR Certification by HL7, Certified Terminology Standards Specialist (CTSS), etc.)

Technical FHIR Business Analyst Assignment Length
Six (6) month contract with the potential for three (3) extensions of six (6) months each.

Main office located in Burnaby, British Columbia. Consultants may work remotely within Canada. Consultants will need to adhere to PST/PDT working hours for the duration of this contract.
