Purpose of Position: This position is responsible for the collection of rental and maintenance arrears and related input into computerized records for Nepean Housing Corporation (NHC).
About us and what we need:
In the world of Ottawa’s non-profit housing, we are one of the bigger ones, but still operate as a close-knit, collaborative group of 17 co-workers. We have 555 units in six communities throughout Nepean. Because we are a manageable size, we have a closer relationship with our tenants, often knowing them, their needs and even their pets without checking a file. We work together, supporting each other to meet deadlines and the crisis of the day without regard to defined roles.
We need someone who can balance the need to pay the rent with the challenges of the households. Someone who can direct people to help and sometimes locate the support services themselves. Someone who, with compassion, flexibility and decisiveness, can help tenants understand the need to pay rent and the consequences of not paying or not working towards resolving the arrears. This is not just a collection agent: it’s part social worker, part decision-maker and part rule-enforcer.
Qualifications:
Office Administration Certificate or Accounting Certificate from a community college would be an asset; minimum high school diploma.
Knowledge of accounts receivable.
Highly motivated, detail orientated and ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills including word processing and Microsoft suite.
Clear Criminal reference check.
General knowledge of non-profit housing and Yardi software is an asset.
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
Ability to speak French is an asset.
Experience:
A minimum two years’ experience with multi-tasking within a busy environment with client contact, especially by phone. Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset.
