Job description

West Point Grey Academy is seeking a Theatre Production Manager/Senior School Teacher beginning August 26, 2024. This is a full-time position, eligible for benefits.

Great schools have great faculty, and WPGA has exceptional teachers and staff who are dedicated to shaping lives of inquiry, action and joy.

West Point Grey Academy teachers and staff focus on the individual child, the whole person, and a balanced life. They give each student transformative learning experiences rooted in inquiry, shaped by action, and celebrated with joy.

Teachers involved in Drama and our productions motivate our students to learn practical skills in drama and experience the excitement and energy of acting and performing. They inspire an appreciation of cultural values, identities and ideas, and prepare the foundations for some students to go onto a career in the arts. Our Performing Arts students collaborate on an annual production for our community, and our teachers demonstrate flexible problem-solving, budget management, and superior teaching skills to take the lead on all of the details of the performance's planning and execution.

All WPGA Faculty:

  • Provide future-focused programs and personalized learning experiences.
  • Provide and plan for inspirational learning environments that facilitate innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.

  • Building relationships with local vendors, community members, and other professionals in the field to enhance resources and support for productions.
  • Prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines, keeping track of props and other production elements, and handling paperwork, permissions, and other administrative tasks related to the production.

Teaching

  • Preparing and delivering engaging, future-focused lesson plans and interactive learning activities/materials that follow BC curriculum guidelines. Courses to be taught include Drama 8/9, and could also include English 8-12, Social Studies 8-12, and/or Career Education depending on your skills and interests and the school's needs.

  • Working flexibly across the Senior School to cover a range of teaching roles on a scheduled basis.

Co-Curricular Involvement

  • Modelling and promoting our core values and high standards of behaviour in and out of the classroom.
  • Participating in school life and co-curricular activities by acting as the production manager of the Senior School Theatre Company's annual show.

Growing as a Professional

  • Actively participating in faculty meetings.
  • Seeking opportunities for collaboration.
  • Participating in professional development by reading professional literature and attending courses, seminars, and other professional-development opportunities.
