Job Description :
Third Officer
Tsawwassen
Casual

Exciting opportunities currently exist with BC Ferries to be part of our Tsawwassen crew. If you hold a minimum Watchkpeeing Mate certificate, and want a position where you are standing watch as a junior member of the bridge team, this may be the role for you.

As a junior member of the Bridge Team; your main responsibility will be assisting in the navigation of the vessel. In addition, you supervise the loading/unloading of car deck and passengers; ensuring that lines are securely attached to the shore, and that the ramp and apron are adjusted. You will advise the bridge that the vessel is clear to sail; and check vehicles for gas leaks, propane and dangerous goods. Other duties may include maintaining the wheelhouse; correcting charts and publications; and completing various logs and reports. In addition, you will have an opportunity to assist the Chief Officer in leading, directing, and training the crew in fire, safety and boat drills; and responding to emergency situations. Finally, you support the bridge team by analyzing information and the manifest for load size and vessel stability.

The successful applicant is a proven, engaged deck officer who brings the technical and interpersonal skills required for safe and efficient participation in the management and operation of the ship’s navigational duties. You will be committed to the Company’s vision and values including safety, exceeding customer expectations and performance efficiency.

Interested employees holding a Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate certification or higher may be considered for this opportunity based on meeting the qualifications, experience and suitability requirements determined by the Company.
