As an Ambassador of The Mustard Seed to community participants and donors, the Thrift Store Associate will provide quality customer service to ensure that all parties are satisfied and appreciated. Reporting to the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Associate is responsible for providing support to the volunteers and staff, establish donor relationships, and provide front-line customer service.
Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time
Schedule: Monday and Tuesday (9:00AM to 5:00PM), and
Thursday to Saturday (9:00AM to 5:00PM)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sell product and support sales transactions
- Manage customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner
- Perform opening and closing procedures including cash out
- Greet customers and provide assistance as needed
- Restock inventory and create product displays
- Clean and organize the store to ensure a welcoming environment to customers
- Engage in loss prevention procedures
- Engage volunteers to grow and develop the Thrift Store
- Sorting donations
- Directing and organizing volunteers to complete tasks as needed
- Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, safeTalk, First Aid)
- Other duties as may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a retail sales or customer service role required
- Sales or marketing experience is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Skilled at conflict resolution
- Empathetic towards, and ability to communicate with, individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges
- Other duties as may be assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Moderate mental effort: periods of high-volume workload with significant people interaction
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb and reach for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift 50lbs routinely to load and sort merchandise as required.
- Model healthy relationships with staff, donors, volunteers, and customers
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and gratitude with all donors and visitors
- Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive
