Description of position

Balances, installs, rotates and repairs tires following standards and procedures. Stocks, tags, and organizes all tires on sales floor. Assists members with purchasing tires. Creates tire purchase and service invoice. Answers questions, makes recommendations and provides prompt and courteous member service. In locations with propane services: Once provincially certified, fills propane tanks following all safety procedures. In locations with oil services: performs complete oil changes on vehicles as required.

Daily tasks and responsibilities

• Locates member’s car in tire centre area of lot. Lists any body damage on service order. Authorized employee drives member vehicle into install bay, onto hydraulic hoist. Raises auto.
• Removes wheel to be replaced or repaired using impact gun. Rolls wheel to mounting machine, removes tire from wheel. Clean mating surface of the hub and wheel. Attaches new valve stem or installs member paid service pack into TPMS sensor, mounts new tire on wheel, fills tire with Nitrogen to appropriate pressure.
• Operates wheel balancer to determine proper weight and placement to balance wheel. Attaches wheel weights to rims with wheel weight hammer.
• Re attaches wheels to auto using impact gun.
• Alerts manager/hourly supervisor to perform inspections, torque check, 10-point check and authorize vehicle release.
• Authorized employee drives member vehicle out of install bay and parks in lot. Returns invoice and keys to sales desk.
• Resets and or relearns vehicles Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors as required using Costco supplied reset tool.
• Restocks supplies in stations. Cleans install and sales area by sweeping, mopping, spraying and wiping.
• Assists members in person or through phone line in determining tire needs, answers questions, makes product recommendations and provide price quotes. Sells tires using persuasive skills and product knowledge.
• Complete understanding of .CA appointment program including organizing and booking appointments using the Appointment Plus program, responding to emails in a timely manner as outlined by procedures.
• Ensures Special orders and .CA orders are properly tagged and organized as per procedure. Provides members with booked appointments for special orders at time of purchase.
• Invoices tire purchase and install/repair services. Rings up orders. Receives accurate payment, makes change, processes cheques, cash cards, credit and debit charges, gives out receipt and submits order according to proper procedures. Calculates refund amount for warranty returns of tires.
• Communicates with Tire Centre manager, buyers, receiving department and inventory auditors regarding special orders, quantity, status, price, delivery and promotion of merchandise.
• Stocks tires in sales area and keeps tires in steel stocked in accordance with Tire Centre manager’s merchandising plan.
• In oil locations, performing complete oil changes on select vehicles as required.
• In propane locations, assist members with propane refills/purchases.
• Works in accordance of and comply with Tire Industry Association (TIA) standards, R.I.S.T. standards, American Lift Institute standards and Costco training and procedures. Follows safety and security procedures.

Non-essential functions and tasks

• Assists in other areas of the warehouse as necessary.

Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry-specific skills that candidates must possess)

• Education/Training:

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

• Permits/Licenses/Certifications:

Valid driver’s license required. Must pass Costco Tire certifications.

Propane locations: must pass appropriate provincial PP0-3 certification along with TDG. Certification from PTI 100-11 program.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: From $19.50 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 38 per week
