Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Mine Maintenance department is responsible for the maintenance on all mobile equipment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. The department attends to a variety of surface and underground equipment including but not limited to Dozers, Excavators, Haul Trucks, Drills, Loaders, Jumbos, Bolters, LHD’s, etc. Additionally, the department is responsible for supporting the entire light vehicle fleet including Pick-Up Trucks, Semis, Forklifts, and other equipment. The Mine Maintenance department is comprised of highly skilled Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, Automotive Technicians, Truck and Transport Technicians, Welders, and Engineers.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking a Tire Service Technicianto join our Surface Mine Maintenance department in Voisey’s Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.

This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor, the Tire Service Technician will be responsible for mounting, dismounting, and rotation of tire positions on all mobile equipment, as well as proper inspection of tires and all wheel components. Additionally, in this position, you will:

• Perform scheduled maintenance services and safety inspections as required.
• Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s specifications.
• Jack and hoist vehicles safely, while utilizing the proper equipment such as hoists, jacks, jack stands, blocking, or cribbing.
• Inspect and remove tire and wheel assemblies and repair tires by using manufacturer’s specifications and selecting appropriate repair techniques, materials, and equipment.
• Inspect, exam, and test rims, tires, and undercarriage to recommend the extent and nature of the work to be completed.
• Conduct final inspections to ensure that each work order has been completed to meet safety standards.
• Assist mechanics as needed.

About You

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• College diploma in Tire Repair would be considered an asset.

Experience:

• 5 years of experience in Off Road Tires within a Mining environment is preferred or demonstrated experience within a heavy industrial environment.

Skills:

• Knowledge of tires, wheel components, and tooling.
• Knowledge of mounting, dismounting, and maintenance of tires.
• Concern for Safety, Health, and Environment.
• Strong ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
• Good oral and written communication skills and good team building skills.
