This YOUTH project funded by IRAP is focused on the design and implementation of a Bioreactor system for the large-scale in vitro production of cannabis plants originated through meristem culture at Segra’s plant Tissue Culture processing facility.
Successful youth applicants will be:
- A post-secondary graduate;
- Candidates must be between 19-30 years old;
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- A first-time participant in the Youth Employment Program
- Experience working in a lab will be an asset
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform standard Tissue Culture Laboratory work.
- Perform laboratory procedures following established protocols with a focus on quality data collection and documentation of results.
- Initiate explant material into Tissue Culture media following established protocols
- Perform transferring of sterile cultures following established protocols
- Maintain inventory, evaluate and report to the lab manager for any problems in the inventory immediately
- Interpret experimental results and be able to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Mixing plant Tissue Culture nutrient media and prepare and dispense autoclaved/sterile media following established protocols.
- QC of various Tissue Culture media, maintenance of documentation, sample preparation, inventory, and other laboratory duties.
- Able to communicate effectively both written and orally, and demonstrate a sense of timeliness
Work Context: Physical Requirements
- Requires prolonged sitting and standing and some bending, reaching, stooping and stretching
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, lifting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
Location: New Westminster and/or Richmond, BC
Remuneration: Starting with $20-25/h depending on qualification
Project duration: 6-8 monthswith possible employment upon successful completion of the project
