The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

Corporate Operations at the BCLDB includes our Corporate Loss Prevention and Real Estate departments. Real Estate manages all activities related to the leasing, construction, renovation, and facilities management of all new and existing LDB facilities, included head office, distribution centres, and all BC Liquor and BC Cannabis retail locations. The Corporate Loss Prevention department ensures the security of all BCLDB assets through physical security management as well as an investigative team.

About this role:

Under the direction of the Manager, Physical Security, the Locksmith provides the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) with technical security support, including the Head Office complex, four distribution centres (Burnaby, Kamloops, Delta & Richmond) as well as BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores throughout the province.

The position is responsible for supporting the installation, operation, implementation, fabrication and troubleshooting of all locksmithing services, which provides a safeguard to Branch assets, employees, contractors, customers and business partners.

A criminal record check is required.

Successful candidates must be able to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia, have a valid BC Driver’s License, BC Certificate of Qualification, Locksmithing and a BC Security License.

There may be a requirement to work outside of core hours and on weekends.

The work involves being exposed to dusty conditions 75% of the time, and the lifting of material and equipment, 10-20% of the time. May be required to lift up to 80 pounds. Will be required to work on ladders at various heights to perform installations.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Successful completion of the BC Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Locksmithing.
  • Minimum five (5) years, within the last seven (7) years, experience as a locksmith in an industrial/commercial setting.
  • Preference may be given to those candidates with experience working with safes.
  • Preference may be given to those candidates with experience with computer networks and infrastructure.
  • Note: Successful candidates must possess a BC Driver’s License and BC Security License.
