Career Opportunity


We are currently seeking a Track Patroller Trainee. This is a 40-hour work week with various shifts and as per scheduled (APS) off days.
Upon successful completion of the training program, the candidate will be re-classified as a Track Patroller(Wage Group 9).

What You Will Do


  • Trainees follow a 12-month program involving progressively more complex aspects of safety inspection and patrol work conducted on tangent, curved and special track work, track switches, switch components, track bed, track accessories and supporting systems;
  • Attaining and maintaining proficiency in work involving: safety inspection of track sections, identification of unsafe rail conditions, the safe passage of trains, and the maintenance and repair of defective or inoperative track switches, track work and track components etc.;
  • Successful completion of the Track Patroller training program and the training program for truck driving operations and pass the tests required for a DZ;
  • Successful completion of the Training Department’s program for truck driving and the written and practical tests to qualify for a Class “DZ” licence;
  • Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be classified as a Track Patroller in Wage Group 9;
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer;
  • Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?


  • Completion of a Grade 12 education (technical program), or its equivalent through practical experience in such areas as: track geometry/alignment, track metallurgy, track inspection/maintenance standards, track repair techniques, and vehicle dynamic forces, etc.;
  • Knowledge of subway track maintenance standards and repair techniques that would normally be acquired through 24 months of related experience in subway maintenance and repair work;
  • Completion of Way Training Centre courses for the Subway Track Mechanic program, and be a fully qualified Subway Track Mechanic;
  • Understanding of basic computer operations;
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions;
  • Ability to speak clearly in order to exchange information;
  • A valid non-probationary Class “G”, or better Province of Ontario Driver’s Licence;
  • Ability to pass tests set by the Subway Infrastructure Department which correspond to the knowledge, theory and practical requirements described above;
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
