Hazelwood Construction Services, Inc., a division of The Hazelwood Group, is seeking a Traffic Control Supervisor to join the team on the West Coast working on jobs in Port Alberni, Ucluelet, and Tofino.

Union rates apply and all benefits are provided through the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 115.

Compensation

• $25.00 per hour
• Vacation pay: 13% of your hourly wage
• Benefits eligibility: After completing 250 hours
• Pension contributions: $4.60 per hour worked

Summary

As a Traffic Control Supervisor, your job is to oversee the overall operation related to road and highway construction of our projects. Roles and responsibilities include employing Traffic Control devices and monitoring the roadway setups in codominance with Hazelwood’s Traffic Management Plans and the 2020 Traffic Management Manual. For on-road work, you will be required to inform motorists of possible detour routes, report disobedient drivers to law enforcement officials, and answer motorists’ questions. You should also be able to direct emergency vehicles safely through construction zones as required.

To be successful as a Traffic Control Supervisor, you must have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team. You will work alongside and supervise the Traffic Control crew while maintaining work zone safety from start to finish. Additional duties include communicating issues or concerns to the foreperson or supervisor, ensuring your team follows all safety protocols, and maintaining a work zone free of hazards. Each day you will also be responsible for completing daily logs and daily Traffic Control plans.

Requirements

• 1 year of recent TCP work experience.
• TCP Certification from a recognized educational institute or governing body.
• Prior experience managing/supervising a team in a similar environment.
• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of Provincial traffic regulations.
• Calm demeanor with good problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and collectively as a team.
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
• Good observational skills.
• Effective time management skills
• Must have reliable transportation.
