Maple Leaf Power Corporation (Maple Leaf Traffic Control) is seeking to hire Traffic Control Personnel in the Castlegar/Kootenay area. General Duties:
- Knowledge and understanding of Traffic Management Plans and the Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways as developed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure
- Knowledge of the requirements of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations related to Traffic Control
- Daily involvement in safety conscious activities
- Working in and around heavy machinery and crews
- Working and coordinating with other TCP's onsite
Traffic Control Personnel are responsible for:
- Considering safety a number one priority
- Protect the safety of the work crew, employees, and the public by directing motoring and pedestrian traffic (stop, slow, and redirecting traffic)
- Ensuring the safe and controlled flow of traffic through work zones
- Assist with the set up and dismantling of the Traffic Control devices
- Calm demeanor with good problem-solving abilities
- Capable of dealing with traveling public; and represent the company in a positive light while doing so
- Complete Field Level Risk Assessment and Traffic Management Plan prior to work commencing at each location
- Document all changes on the Field Level Risk Assessment and Traffic Management Plan and review with Traffic Control team & work crew
- Wearing all PPE required for flagging on roadways
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Communicate effectively with other members of the Traffic Control team, work crew and public
Physical Requirements:
- Maintain a standing posture for long periods of time (8-12 hours/day)
- Pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 30lbs
- Hold a traffic paddle (under 5lbs) at or above shoulder height for extended periods of time
- Bending, squatting, kneeling, rotating body and/or neck
- Able to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, rain etc.
- Working around traffic
Qualifications & Requirements:
- BCCSA Traffic Control Certification
- Driver’s licence and clean abstract
- Experience as a Traffic Control Technician is an asset
- Takes safety seriously and is mindful of surroundings
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Willingness to learn and excel
- Good work ethic
- CSA approved steel toe boots
- Rain gear
- Must be able to both Read and Communicate in English
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
