As a Data Collector, you will support Calgary Transit in recording critical Transit Data in the field, on board a bus or C-Train to generate business information. Primary duties Include:
- Conduct transit surveys at locations throughout Calgary, such as C-Train stations, platforms and/or bus zones.
- Understand the passenger counting protocols, observe passengers at assigned locations, and complete forms to be used for data studies.
- Travel to locations to perform field counts including, but not limited to, counting the number of vehicles at Park and Ride lots and amenities at bus zones.
- Complete passenger counts while on board the bus, including numbers of passengers boarding and/or alighting buses at specific zones.
- Review video footages to account for ridership numbers and other business purposes.
- Assist with entering information collected in data spreadsheet.
- Conduct quality checks on data collected, to account for any errors or omissions.
- Provide Customer Service Public Information Support.
- Support the deployment of communication materials including Sandwich boards, stop cards and more.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Completion of some High School courses in Mathematics and English and at least 1 year of applicable data collection experience.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary coursework in Mathematics and other related fields.
- Customer service experience in a professional setting is considered an asset.
- General knowledge of Calgary Transit, and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) are considered assets.
- Ability to obtain a Calgary Transit vehicle operating proficiency certificate.
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit .
- Success in this position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as this role also interacts with members of the public to complete surveys .
- Must be driven to achieve a high standard of excellence, motivated by challenges and have a passion for quality and commitment.
- Success in this position requires an understanding of Calgary Transit operations, and the ability to function under pressure and exercise sound judgement.
Working Conditions: This position normally involves prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing while working shifts of various lengths, including split shifts in outdoor weather conditions.
