Job Description

AECOM Transit & Rail is seeking an experienced Track Design Engineer to join our growing team. Featuring a flexible work arrangement and a wealth of growth opportunities, you’ll become part of Canada’s largest rail consulting team, creating designs for both transit and freight clients.

As part of your role, you will not only perform technical Civil Engineering activities, but also be able to identify areas for innovating and developing new rail-related service offerings in Western Canada, leveraging your past experience and networks.

To be successful in this technical-focused role, you will have the following characteristics:

  • Well-rounded experience including successfully delivering safety, quality, budget, and schedule in both management and technical roles.

  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary transit and rail design projects.

  • Hands-on design and drafting experience in design software, ideally Civil 3D.

  • Able to self-direct and work independently, but also lead and mentor our up-and-coming talent.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, particularly working with remotely distributed teams.

  • Reputation for consistently meeting or exceeding commitments.

  • Eager to tackle new or unusual challenges and find solutions through innovation.

Daily tasks may include:

  • Under general direction, prepare and modify designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings.

  • Independently develop technical solutions and design options.

  • Develop and/or implement the results of reports, opinions, or recommendations to address design challenges/opportunities.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the design ideas and solutions.

  • Communicate and collaborate with the full design team and client.

  • Oversee and coordinate the technical work for projects consistent with experience.

  • Develop and lead technical approach and criteria for a design element, and coordinate complex work.

  • Ensure compliance to Quality Assurance Procedures.

  • May be required to sign and seal documents (e.g. drawings)

For proximity to our clients, this position is best based out of our Edmonton, Calgary, or Burnaby office, however AECOM embraces work from home arrangements when it works for you, our company, and our clients.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 6 Years of Track Design Experience

  • PEng or eligible

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years LRT and/or freight rail design experience

  • Hands-On Civil Design/Drafting Software Experience (Civil 3D or similar)

  • Strong familiarity with Canadian client design standards and processes (AREMA, CN, CPKC, BNSF, Translink, Calgary Transit, Edmonton Transit, Metrolinx, etc.)

  • Consulting experience, including liaising with clients.

  • Technical Lead experience on both large-scale and small-scale projects.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $90,000 - $159,000.
