Trip Logistics Staff

Job Summary

Trip Logistics Staff support campers in all aspects of planning, preparation and wrap-up of Tims Camps Program wilderness trips. This includes support with packing, equipment and meal preparation, inventory management and transportation. Trip Logistics Staff provide an inclusive and supportive environment where campers gain knowledge and build skills related to successful wilderness tripping, which are a tool for personal development throughout their THFC camp experience.

Work Location

This role will be based onsite at our Tim Horton Memorial Camp located in Parry Sound, ON.

Contract Length

May 27, 2024 – August 19, 2024

What would you be doing?

  • Establish relationships with youth, aged 11-16, that reflect respect, trust and empathy
  • Lead the successful execution of Trip Logistics including transportation, pack-out, pack-in, menu selection, equipment maintenance (repair and replacement) and inventory, training and risk management
  • Encourage camper development through their own processing and readiness, and recognize their achievements
  • Use respectful, positive behavior management techniques
  • Model healthy choices and emotional maturity
  • Provide in-field leadership in the event of staff or risk management support, evacuation, or replacement of trip supplies
  • Identify, assess, and appropriately manage risks and off-site crises in line with THCF’s risk management standards
  • Provide leadership and mentorship, knowledge, and skill transfer to other staff (inclusive as well)
  • Deliver programs in accordance with THFC and accrediting body standards
  • Be challenged physically and emotionally as you live in an overnight camp or wilderness setting for 10-day sessions, with 3 days of break in between
  • Contribute positively to the camp team and culture

Does this sound like you?

  • Pursuing post-secondary education (required at some locations)
  • Experienced at working with youth aged 11 – 17
  • Experienced at planning and leading wilderness backpacking trips
  • Technically skilled in trip packing, logistics, trip logs, navigation, and equipment use
  • Strong at group facilitation and adopt facilitation based on individual/group needs
  • Skilled in positive behavior management
  • Equipped with good judgment and decision-making skills; know when to bring in key team members as it relates to escalated concerns
  • Certified in wilderness first aid (WFA) and and CPR (adult, child, infant) with AED, or are willing to obtain
  • Certified in bronze cross, National Lifeguard or Wilderness Water Safety, or are willing to obtain (required for canoe trips)
  • Able to provide a clear criminal background check
  • Ability to live on-site for an extended period of time and work flexible hours
