Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Truck and Transport Technician is responsible for the accurate inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on a variety of heavy commercial and industrial vehicles, and various pieces of equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs daily safety and maintenance checks;
  • Performs scheduled maintenance service including oil changes, lubrications and tune-ups;
  • Interprets work orders and technical manuals;
  • Adjusts, repairs or replaces parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment on various makes and models of trucks, trailers and other pieces of equipment;
  • Consults with Fleet Manager regarding all repairs and the extent of repairs necessary;
  • Manages labour times, job details and parts and labour on work orders;
  • Tests repaired vehicles for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations;
  • Inputs service reports;
  • Maintains a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques;
  • Performs work in outdoor construction site settings as required;
  • Adheres to all CAUS policies, procedures and safe work practices; and,
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience required;
  • Journey-Certified Truck and Transport Mechanic/Interprovincial Red Seal Certification (310T);
  • Valid drivers licence with a clean driver abstract required;
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment relating to the trade;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong troubleshooting skills;
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively with others as part of a team;
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities in order to meet deadlines; and,
  • Able to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting ability required up to 50lbs;
  • Pulling, climbing, crouching and managing heavy equipment and objects;
  • Standing for extended periods of time; and,
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required where technician must be prepared for all weather conditions including both extreme heat and cold.
