Truck Driver, Public Works
(Seasonal)
Lamont County has an opening for experienced Truck Drivers on a seasonal basis with the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate performs duties directly-related to road maintenance, including the transportation and hauling of materials with a tandem truck, and assisting in other road maintenance duties as required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Safe and efficient operation of a tandem truck while hauling flatbed equipment and belly dump trailers. Hauling with truck attachments such as plows, sanders, water tanks.
· Safe and efficient operation of a loader while loading and unloading materials, aggregates, tools and equipment.
· Maneuver of a tandem truck into appropriate loading and unloading positions, and following signals from loading crew as needed.
· Performs daily routine inspection of unit(s).
· Basic daily maintenance of equipment – including lubricating and greasing.
· Compliance with the Lamont County health and safety program.
· Other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· Five (5) or more years of driving truck with a pup or belly dump trailer and loader operating experience.
· Municipal experience is considered an asset.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Minimum of a valid Class 1 Alberta Driver’s license.
· Proficiency and knowledge of road gravelling (spread rates, and able to consistently and evenly spread road gravel).
· Safe and efficient loading of the truck and trailers in a timely manner and within weight tolerances.
· Able to operate multiple types of front-end loaders.
· Able to lift approximately 50 lbs, sit for prolonged periods, climb in and out of equipment.
· Able to work in all types of weather (rain, cold or hot) and dusty conditions.
· Willing to work 10-hour days, overtime may be required from time-to-time.
· Able to perform labour tasks and other duties as assigned.
· Able to understand directions and ability to read a (Lamont County) road map.
· Safety conscious and attentive to the work environment they are in.
· Excellent communication and experience dealing with the public is required.
· Mechanical aptitude to perform routine inspection and servicing of the unit.
· Able to work independently and unsupervised.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· A satisfactory and valid Driver’s Abstract.
· A satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
· A negative drug screen.
This position is based on a nine-hour workday, Monday through Friday, starting at 7:00 a.m. Lamont County offers a competitive wage based on experience and qualifications.
