Job description

Description of Assignment Tsilhqot'in Language and Culture. This position is full time temporary effective immediately, until June 30th, 2024. This position may be reposted as full time continuing (permanent) as part of our spring staffing process, for the upcoming school year.Special Qualifications Required Preference will be given to applicants with a Professional Teaching Certificate. Applicants who hold (or are eligible to hold) a Tsilhqot'in Language Certificate may also be considered. Oral and written fluency in Tsilhqot'inLanguage Be current with traditional activities and Culture Have successful experience working in a classroom Be able to produce, use lesson plans and overviews and organize resources for class Be able to assess, evaluate and give feedback to students and parents on their work; this will include report cards Expected to work with a school team to further students' educational goals Expected to continue learning by attending language/culture courses and workshops and other professional development activitiesSalary The salary of this assignment is based on our current salary grid. The current salary is set to $57, 972.00 per annum, paid over 10 months.Local Area Information and Application Details In School District 27 it isacknowledged that we humbly work, learn, and live on the traditional,ancestral, unceded, and shared lands of the Secwepemc, Tsilhqot’tin, and Dakelhpeople. We commit to supporting our new teachers (those with 0-3 years of experience) by facilitating a structured mentorship program. Teachers who desire mentorship but who have more than 3 years experience will qualify for mentorship based on the provisions within our collective agreement. We further support those who have a desire to explore their leadership abilities by offering a leadership series throughout the school year. Participants can expect to meet with the group in person (and over dinner), a minimum of 3 times. This structured series is facilitated by our Superintendent of Schools.We also believe in providing Professional Development beyond the provisions of our collective agreement. The District has engaged in long term contracts with several (up to 6) educational leaders. Teachers can expect to see the educational leaders in our District, up to 2 days prior to a Professional Development Day, offering hands on coaching both in the classroom and in sessions (evening or during the Professional Development Day). Our local teachers' union, the Cariboo Chilcotin Teachers' Association, also boasts strong collective agreement language regarding Professional Development as well as financial support for their members to engage in opportunities.
