SFU now seeks to appoint its next University Librarian & Dean of Libraries responsible for overall leadership and direction of the Simon Fraser University Library, which includes the W.A.C. Bennett Library (Burnaby) (https://www.lib.sfu.ca/), Belzberg Library (Vancouver) (https://tinyurl.com/BelzbergLibraryVancouver), and Fraser Library (Surrey) (https://tinyurl.com/FraserLibrarySurrey). In alignment with What’s Next: The SFU Strategy (https://tinyurl.com/yc3z9k87) and SFU Library’s Strategic Plan (https://tinyurl.com/mr33r3fk) the Dean will lead the continued transformation of the library; will sustain, support and grow library initiatives; and will be committed to furthering decolonization and reconciliation (per the statement at https://tinyurl.com/55284ns4), diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. As an accomplished librarian with strong experience in post-secondary and academic environments, the Dean will lead through collaboration and relationship building to advance the mission and mandate of SFU and SFU Library.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic and working closely with the Office of the Vice-President Research and International as an active partner in the life cycle of research and scholarship, the successful candidate serves as a member of SFU’s senior administration with shared responsibility for the overall strategic leadership and management of the institution. Building on the strong foundation that SFU has established in academic and research excellence, the Dean of Libraries plays a strong advocacy role, raising the profile of the Library within the University and beyond and in contributing to the long-term strategic planning of Library and associated research and learning infrastructure at SFU as a critical member of the Provost’s senior leadership team. The appointment is based on a five-year term, which is renewable, with an expected start date of October 1, 2024, or as agreed upon with the successful candidate.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Simon Fraser University’s search partner Perrett Laver. In accordance with B.C.’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary range for this role (exclusive of pension and benefits) is $227K - $267K CAD per year.
