Job description

Full-Time (40 hours/week), Permanent

As our Urban Forest Labourer, you will “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring our urban trees are watered, pruned, protected from ungulate browsing, and maintained as described in the Town of Banff’s Urban Forest Management Plan.

You will be required to perform a variety of labour duties such as: installing and maintaining tree protection fences, pruning/planting trees, assist with tree removals, water trees/shrubs/flowers, perform trail inspections and maintenance, perform snow removal, bucking/stacking wood.

A candidate for this position will possess:

  • A great attitude, willingness to help others and foster positive change
  • An eye for details
  • Experience driving trailers, dump trucks, toolcats
  • Experience with safe operation of chainsaws and chippers
  • Knowledge and previous experience with safe tree felling techniques, and arborist practices
  • A mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work safely and follow safe work procedures
  • Ability to accept and receive feedback openly
  • A level of fitness allowing them to complete physically demanding tasks for long periods of time

This position is based on 40 hours a week and work shifts may have a mix of weekdays, weekends, and holidays as the Municipal Parks department operates seven days a week, year around. Working four 10-hour shifts (6am-4pm) a week will leave you 3 days off each week to enjoy all that Banff has to offer. This contract will commence April 30th, 2024. The rate of pay will be between $23.00 and $29.00 per hour depending on your experience and qualifications.
