Veterinary Technician Assistant

We are looking for a mixed animal Veterinary Technician Assistant at Virden Animal Hospital located in Virden, Manitoba.

The Veterinary Technician Assistant will assist the Technologists and Veterinarians in both large and small animal care and treatment. Experience in bovine and equine would be an asset. The successful candidate is expected to be able to work in Large and Small area, as required.

Applicants should be team players, enjoy dealing with people and their pets and be able to work independently. They should have strong communication, problem solving and listening skills.

Job description:

· Ensures exceptional care of hospitalized animals including outside pen and kennel cleaning, emptying of litter, exercising, feeding, bathing, and grooming as necessary.

Ÿ Monitors, records and reports any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any hospitalized animal; observe patients recovering from anesthesia.

Ÿ Ensures cleanliness and tidiness of all clinic areas including pens, chutes, kennels, isolation room, treatment room, exam rooms, laboratory, staff room, and bathrooms.

Ÿ Assists in the preparation for office hours by stocking drawers in examination rooms and treatment area and disinfecting the exam rooms each morning and afternoon.

Ÿ Receives animals from technologists or veterinarians into hospital care and is responsible for their proper identification and for recording their respective locations.

Ÿ Releases animals to their owners as directed and ensures that every animal released is clean and properly groomed.

Ÿ Assists doctors and technologists with the safe restraint of animals during examination, trotting of horses, safely handling large animal in chutes, loading and unloading large animal on and of trailers, the administration of medications, blood draws, etc.

Ÿ Cleans & sterilizes all instruments, drapes and equipment used and prepare surgical packs.

Ÿ Communicates with all other clinic employees regarding the needs of patients.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $16.00-$17.00 per hour
