Organization Profile: Connections for Seniors is a non-profit organization devoted to the provision of services for homeless and at-risk older adults.

Job Description:

The Food Security Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, evaluating, and carrying out the Food Security Program at Connections for Seniors. The FSPC is to reach out to partnerships and volunteers in the community, visit food banks, deliver and organize food hampers, coordinate food donations, and keep track of and monitor Connections for Seniors food bank. The FSPC will be responsible for tracking/monitoring information regarding service users and donations while making note of any issues that may arise.

The primary goal of this position is to coordinate the provision of food hampers and food items to older adults aged 55+ who are at risk of or have experienced food insecurity in St. John’s and surrounding areas.

The Food Security Program Coordinator collaborates with clients, health professionals, municipalities, companies, and other social service agencies in order to best support clients' needs while prioritizing vulnerable older adults who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing food insecurity. The FSPC oversees all aspects of the Food Security Program to ensure timely, efficient, holistic and client-centred care.

The Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible for engaging in community development and advocacy while being open to performing other duties as required. The FSPC is required to collect and evaluate data to better the program and provide suggestions for future development.

Duties:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control, evaluate, and carry out all tasks related to food insecurity
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate all tasks related to food insecurity
  • Provide leadership, innovation and change management in developing and executing a Food Security Program
  • Research funding opportunities and develop proposals
  • Develop implementation plans for program delivery
  • Reach out to community partnerships and volunteers
  • Engage volunteers in picking up groceries and food hampers for seniors
  • Evaluate service delivery and present findings and future recommendations for improvement
  • Assess client needs based on eligibility to access the program according to established policies and procedures, referring non-eligible persons to alternative services and complete intake processes for new referrals
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with related organizations and community partners/stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of strategic partnerships to enhance programs/services
  • Based on the planning process, play an active role in researching, identifying, developing and implementing new or re-aligned services/initiatives
  • Liaise with the community and internal team members to determine vulnerability and gaps in services
  • Maintain quality management and food safety practices in service delivery
  • Seek opportunities to expand current program delivery
  • Assist with preparing and monitoring program-specific budgets and assist with preparing progress reports
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of program budgets
  • Collect and record program statistics and data
  • Assists with the preparation and presentation of grant submissions
  • Follows all policies and procedures as required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience.
  • Experience working in the community and/or non-profit sector.
  • Understanding of issues related to senior homelessness and the barriers they face.
  • Experience working from a harm reduction perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse partners, government, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed administrative and organizational skills including data collection, finance, and budgeting as well as computer proficiency.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $19.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
