This position is ideal for someone who enjoys making connections with volunteers, individual and group supporters who believe in the vision and mission of MCC in southern Manitoba and the Pembina Valley.
The successful applicant is an important and welcoming ‘face of MCC’ based in, and familiar with this part of the province. They will be able to nurture relationships with material resource volunteers involved in core programming priorities of comforter creation and relief kit packing. They will cultivate and facilitate events or occasions for groups and churches to participate and learn through material resource activities, and presentations about the broader work of MCC. Overall, their work will deepen MCC’s relationships with supporters. A natural relational approach to interpersonal interactions in both written and oral communication, a strong emotional intelligence to navigate varied contexts, and excellent organizational skills are important assets in this role.
This position is part of a vibrant communications and donor relations (CDR) team that includes fundraising, communications, engagement, and outreach components. This team is responsible for revenue generation, communication and engagement with individuals, volunteers, groups, communities, and churches in alignment with the relief, development, peace work and values of MCC. The role works closely with department members focused on volunteer and material resources, church and supporter engagement based in Winnipeg.
This is a salaried position with a generous benefits package. General work hours apply (9:00-4:30 pm) with flexibility for some evening and weekend commitments (average of 1-2 times per month) with the occasional overnight required. Flexibility to travel primarily within southern (occasionally south-western Manitoba) and to Winnipeg for in-person meetings and training (6-8 times per year) is required. This position is based out of the MCC Plum Coulee Warehouse office with the possibility of a partial work from home component dependent on context.

- Strong leadership skills to enable creation of a warm and inclusive workplace culture for volunteers and visitors to the warehouse.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presenting, facilitating, listening).
- Excellent ability to coordinate interactive activities in varied settings and deliver compelling presentations to groups of students, youth, adults and seniors.
- Comfort with making connections with supporters via phone, video conference, in-person conversations, written notes, and emails.
- Strong skills in planning, prioritizing and time management.
- Competent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Strong organization skills and ability to manage deadlines.
- Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently, taking proactive initiative when required.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift items up to 20 Kgs.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license
- Use of personal vehicle for work travel (mileage reimbursement provided)
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Satisfactory criminal record check (upon hire)
- Familiarity and resonance with MCC’s work, both internationally and locally.
- Post-secondary studies in international development, humanities, theology or a people-focused field OR equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in people-oriented contexts, ideally in the non-profit sector.
- Volunteer management – recruitment, cultivation, scheduling, and coordination for on-site Plum Coulee warehouse volunteers focused on comforter making and post-production shipping; kit preparations for pre-engagement and post-production shipping; book recycling.
- Responsible for office management, logistics and administration, workplace safety and security for Plum Coulee satellite location.
- Work together with the part-time Plum Coulee staff contractor responsible for shipping, receiving and general maintenance.
- Coordination of pick-up/drop-off appointments for comforters and relief kits and associated materials for off-site volunteers and groups.
- Administrative tasks focused on tracking of activities, contacts, materials and inventory.
- Engagement, promotion, presentations and relationship cultivation for on-site and off-site groups and churches participating in kit packing activities.
- Occasional presentations to churches about the broader work of MCC.
- Stewardship and cultivation with individual MCC supporters in order to deepen understanding and impact reporting of the work of MCC locally and internationally.
