Job Description Summary:

This Position is responsible for establishing and maintaining Inventory Management and delivery and control systems. Leading to continuous improvement of warehousing materials function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position may require a split between inventory management and mechanical repair of rail cars, as business needs dictate.
  • Establish and maintain an inventory management and delivery control system that will lead to continuous improvement of the warehousing/materials function.
  • Accurately and efficiently order, receive, stock/issue material from warehouse (receiving requires use of a forklift truck).
  • Responsible for maintaining an organized and efficient warehouse/yard/shop areas and ensuring parts availability for rail car repairs.
  • Work collaboratively with Shop, Customer and Vendors.
  • Work proactively with Foremen/Shop Technicians to ensure required materials are pre marshalled in advance.
  • Reconciling the physical inventory and performing audits.
  • Responsible for managing all equipment and tool service and recertification's/calibrations.
  • Light and medium-duty mechanical repairs to rail cars and their components could be required based on business needs
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Inventory, Materials, Vendor and Freight Management
  • Journeyman Parts / Materials Technician Certificate an asset.
  • Strong computer skills with extensive experience in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Must have deep Mechanical background/experience with competent and safe use of hand tools and power equipment on a daily basis.
  • Experience with Inventory Control and billing systems (AX Financial, RASData, RMS, Rail-Link and others) is considered an asset.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to quality.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to resolve issues with both suppliers and Technicians.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with the typical problems that may occur with day-to-day interaction with both internal colleagues and external vendors.
